Philadelphia-raised musician Maxfield Gast has been widely recognized for his performance as a saxophonist and composer. With a degree in music from Temple University, Gast has built a career as an independent artist and music producer. He has toured internationally.

As a bandleader, Gast has released several solo albums ranging from jazz and pop to electronica all on the Militia Hill label. His unique and eclectic sound found early success on college radio charts and quickly led to features on National Public Radio as well as licensing and publishing deals with MTV, Sony Classic Films, and Bighouse Publishing. As a member of studio band SweetPro, Maxfield composed and performed the music for all 5 seasons of FX Network’s Emmy Award winning series Louie.  

As a sideman, Maxfield has constructed an extensive discography having recorded on over 50 albums. He has worked on several films for the big screen, television and short series soundtracks and scores. Gast has also performed with a variety of multi Grammy Award winning artists like Cage the Elephant and bassist Bakithi Kumalo (of Paul Simon) and has shared the stage with jazz legends Betty Carter, Christian McBride, Kenny Barron, and Grover Washington Jr. 

Maxfield has performed in some of the country’s most prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall and Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City, Philadelphia’s Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts and countless music festivals across the US and abroad. For the past several years, Gast has worked as a musical accompanist at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia in addition to working with jazz ensembles as a clinician, teaching saxophone privately and touring as a performer.

Founded in 2009 by Maxfield Gast, Militia Hill is a music production agency and record label located in the Philadelphia area. Its mission with production is to bring remarkable focus, clarity and originality to custom compositions as well as mixing, editing and voice over for all aspects of media. As a record label, Militia Hill has hosted numerous full length albums, EPs and singles featuring a variety of local and national artists. Affiliations through the years have included Grammy nominated producer Jeremy Grenhart and Illadel Allstars, Grammy Award winning engineer David Stoller and Samurai Hotel, Brahm Genzlinger of Diamond St., Big House Publishing, Yessian Music, FX Network, Broad Street Pictures, and Sony Classic Films.
