Producer & Composer Maxfield Gast Joins the Recording Academy Class of 2025

Philadelphia, PA — Music producer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist Maxfield Gast has been welcomed into the Recording Academy’s Class of 2025, joining the Philadelphia Chapter. The recognition marks another milestone in a career defined by versatility, innovation, and commitment to artistic integrity.

Gast began his career as a saxophonist and touring performer, developing a voice rooted in jazz but constantly expanding outward. His path soon led into composition for television and film, with his music featured on major networks including FX, Comedy Central, and NBC. As his studio expertise deepened, he transitioned into production work, collaborating with a wide range of artists and eventually producing Bakithi Kumalo’s (of Paul Simon’s Graceland) acclaimed album What You Hear Is What You See.

Today, Gast serves as founder and executive producer of Militia Hill LLC, his independent production company and record label based in Philadelphia. His style defies easy categorization, blending jazz, electronic, indie, and soul into a sound that bridges genres while maintaining emotional depth and technical precision.

The Recording Academy, best known for producing the GRAMMY Awards, represents one of the most influential institutions in the global music industry. Beyond honoring excellence, the Academy advocates for artists’ rights, fair practices, and the preservation of musical integrity. Membership gives professionals like Gast a platform to engage directly in those efforts at both the community and national levels.

Reflecting on the honor, Gast said:

“Joining the Recording Academy is an incredible privilege. I’m excited to stand with others who care deeply about protecting musicians’ rights and keeping honesty and integrity at the heart of our industry.”

Gast’s inclusion in the Academy’s 2025 class underscores not only his personal achievements but also his growing role as a voice for musicians and producers shaping the future of independent music from the studio to the global stage.
